WHAT IS TRACHEAL SHAVING?
Caused by extra cartilage over the larynx (voice box), Adam's apple may be far more prominent in some patients than in others. Trans women who want to achieve a more feminine facial appearance might consider Adam's apple reduction, or tracheal shaving, if they believe their trachea is too large or protruding. At Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Jacksonville, FL, our board-certified cosmetic surgeons use their artistic eye to figure out the degree of shaving you'll require to achieve the look you want. In addition, reducing the size of the Adam's apple can also change the pitch of the voice. Dr. Erik Nuveen and Dr. Courtney Caplin strive to help patients see a noticeable yet subtle difference in their features following facial feminization surgeries (FFS).

"I had a breast reduction done with Dr. Caplin. This was the best experience I could’ve had! All of the staff at this facility are the kindest people! They made sure they discussed the entire procedure through and through and made sure to answer any questions I had no matter how big or small. I am so happy I went here for my procedure and feel like anywhere else wouldn’t have given me the same experience. Now my results … I was a 38I and went all the way down to a B! There was no better feeling than waking up the day of my procedure and looking at my chest!! I was crying the entire day from joy. I am now 1 week post op and they look AMAZINGGGGGGG!!! I couldn’t be happier !! They are an amazing group of people and skilled at their job! 20/10 would recommend!!"- A.W. / Google / Aug 19, 2023
"I had a great experience! I came for a facial and had an appointment with Micah. I got there early and instead of waiting for my scheduled time they saw me right away! They were very thorough in getting to know my skin type and needs. I have very sensitive skin, so thats important to me. Also the atmosphere was very relaxing. The esthetician was friendly and made me feel comfortable. But she didn't talk the whole time, so I was able to relax which I appreciated. I would recommend this place, and especially micah, to anyone looking for a rejuvenating facial! My skin is still glowing from it!"- E.H. / Google / Aug 16, 2023
"Amazing!!! The facial by Micah was one of the best I’ve ever had. Lauren was so knowledgeable and professional and I love my Botox. I’ll definitely be back soon!"- S.C. / Google / Aug 01, 2023
HOW IS TRACHEAL SHAVING DONE?
For Adam's apple reduction, Dr. Nuveen or Dr. Caplin will create a tiny horizontal incision just above the larynx and pull back the neck muscles, revealing the cartilage. We will then carefully shave small layers of the cartilage until the desired reduction is achieved. Our team aims to provide you with the most improvement possible without harming the vocal cords so some patients may still have a slight protrusion following their surgery. When this process is finished, Dr. Nuveen or Dr. Caplin will then delicately suture the neck muscles and skin back together and cover the area with bandages. This procedure is performed at our on-site surgical facility in Jacksonville, FL.
